Picture Disappeared from Galaxy Nexus

Here is another problem I’ve had with my Galaxy Nexus (4.0.4).

Yesterday I snapped some pictures, then I deleted a few I didn’t want to keep. Later, I went to upload them all to Dropbox (because I’m paranoid and I want them backed up). I selected them in the Gallery app, shared them to the Dropbox app, which started the upload. One failed for unknown reason. I started blaming Dropbox, but after some more tries, I came to the conclusion that it was that very specific picture which was causing problems. Others were being uploaded fine, but that one couldn’t be uploaded, no matter what I tried. Yet it was in the Gallery, perfectly visible and working, so I restarted the phone (operation that I do quite often because the phone seems to behave funny sometimes) figuring it would have fixed everything.

I went to the Gallery again, but after a fraction of a second the picture disappeared in front of my eyes, presumably after the Gallery refreshed its cache or something. I was astonished, as you might guess. I quickly checked with a file manager and the file was completely gone from the internal memory. I wanted to break the phone in 2+ pieces.

You have failed me for the last time, Android.

I don’t know what happened, but I only have 2 explanations:

1. there’s yet another bug in ICS which causes pictures not to be saved correctly, or worse the file system to get corrupted
2. the internal memory has some failed cells.

For some reason, I tend to favor option 1. I guess I can only wait and see if it happens again.
