During the last few weeks the ScrewTurn Wiki forum has been overwhelmed with spam. Now, we have reCAPTCHA in place, so I don’t see how a bot could post spam automatically. It must be done by humans. Swarms of spammers. Each spam message usually lasts in our forum less than 24 hours before it gets nuked by me or Matteo, yet it seems that as “ad” messages grow in number, real, legit user messages go down, approaching zero.
On the other hand, I noticed that I receive very few spam emails, so something must be changing in the junk ads business. The problem is that while email spam is private, personal, and only affects the final recipient, spam in forum boards is much more harmful, as it drives users crazy. It’s much worse than email spam. It’s harming the entire Internet.
Besides, I don’t see how posting an ad message in Russian in an all-English forum is of any utility…
