On Staying Up To Date

There are only a limited amount of hours in one’s day, and in one’s life for that matter. Staying in touch with the IT industry is a must and we all know that. I take for granted that all of us do it diligently, but sometimes I’m too much of an optimist.

How do you cope with the constant flow of news and things to learn and explore, and with the lack of time?

You don’t. You either have to narrow it down, or dumb it down. You can’t have both. I went for the latter option, a bit of everything, like a buffet meal. Huge variety, mediocre quality.

The point is, I didn’t choose it, it just happened. One day I woke up and found myself subscribed to more RSS feeds that any average human could possibly read. I removed some but failed to focus on a subset of the topics. My brain just craves for it all, a smaller list just wouldn’t do.

And that is how deep, conscious knowledge dies: drowning in a sea of innocuous tech news.
